Equal: Is defined as equal ice time every game. There is a variable allowed due to the uncertainty in the frequency in stoppages of play. Coaches have the option of changing goaltenders during the mid-way point of each game or playing them for full games as long as they have equal game time throughout a season and/or provincial championship. Goaltenders are restricted to a one (1) game differential in games where both goaltenders are dressed throughout the regular season or tournaments or provincials. The championship game in a tournament/provincials is excluded from this definition for goaltenders only. Coaches may play either Goaltender
The coach does have the discretion to limit a player's ice time for disciplinary reasons, including but not limited to
- non-compliance with team rules
- undisiplined penalties
Before limiting a player's ice time, the reasons must be clearly explained to the player at the time their ice time is limited. The coach and manager must review with parents/guardians within 24 hours of the game why the decision was made to limit the players' ice time. Clear expectations of what could lead to a player having limited ice time must be reviewed by the head coach at the start of the season with players and parents.
Discretion 1: is defined as equal ice time in every game; however, there is the ability for a coach to use select players in the following situations:

(a) in special team situations in the third period;
(b) in the last three (3) minutes of the third period;
(c) in any overtime period(s) that ensue; and
(d) in special teams situations during provincials
