GCMHA Uniform & Equipment Policy

Applies To: All Players, Team Managers, and Coaching Staff
Purpose: To ensure proper care, consistency, and accountability regarding Team Uniforms and shared team equipment.
1. Jersey Deposit and Return Policy
A deposit is required for all team jerseys prior to distribution. This deposit is fully refundable at the end of the season, provided the jerseys are returned in good condition, washed, and on time, with no damage or alterations. Jerseys must be returned washed and sorted in numerical order from lowest to highest. Unwashed jerseys will incur a washing fee.
Deposit Fees:
- Game Jerseys (U9 to U18): $450.00
- Game Jerseys (U15AAA and U18AAA): $950
Coaches are permitted to withhold any refund from the team budget for parents who have not returned their child’s jerseys in good condition. The Association reserves the right to seek reimbursement from any participant for jerseys that are not returned or are returned in unacceptable condition.
Fines / Replacement Fees:
- Lost/Damaged Game Jerseys: $70.00 each
- Lost/Damaged Game Jerseys with Sponsorship Bars: Additional $15.00 fee
- Team Dressing Room Flag: $50
- Puck Bag: $100.00
- Jerseys Unwashed: $50.00 cleaning fee
- Name Bar Removal: $8.00 per jersey
- Goalie Gear: Replacement cost
If name bars are used, they must be zig-zag stitched only. Glued or heat-pressed name bars are strictly prohibited. Any excessive damage caused by the removal of name bars, including tearing or adhesive residue, will result in a replacement fee being taken from the team’s jersey deposit. Players must carefully remove name bars prior to the final game of the season. Name bars are not to be ripped or forcefully torn off, as this may damage the jersey. Players should coordinate with team staff if assistance is needed to remove name bars properly and safely.
3. Jersey Usage Guidelines
Game jerseys are to be worn for games only and should not be worn at practices. Players may wear their game jerseys at sanctioned fundraising or promotional events if the event is approved by team staff and the jersey is not at risk of being damaged. Players are strongly encouraged to use garment bags to protect and transport their jerseys throughout the season. If a garment bag is not used, jerseys must be stored in a separate area of the hockey bag, away from velcro straps, skate blades, dirty or wet gear, and off dressing room floors to avoid damage. No additional logos, advertisements, or unauthorized patches may be added to the jerseys. Nothing may be affixed to the jersey other than hand-stitched name bars and official captain (C) or assistant captain (A) designations. There is to be no alternate jerseys used for any reason. Practice jerseys of course can be ordered and used for practices but there is to be no use of a third/alternate jersey for gameplay.
4. Jersey Collection and Team Manager Responsibilities
Team managers are responsible for collecting all game jerseys following the final game of the season. Players must remove their name bars beforehand to streamline the collection process. Jerseys must be returned washed and sorted numerically from lowest to highest. Once collected, the team manager must return all jerseys to the organization’s Equipment Manager by the designated deadline. Equipment return dates will be emailed to the manager near the end of the season. Teams unable to meet these assigned dates must contact the Equipment Manager to arrange alternative return plans.
5. Team Socks/Pant Shells
All players are required to have matching team socks for both home and away games. Team socks must be worn during all games to maintain a consistent and professional team appearance. Pant shells are not required uniform. It is strongly encouraged that at the REP hockey level that they should be used to maintain a consistent and professional appearance.
6. Helmets
All players must wear CSA-certified hockey helmets at all times during on-ice activities. Helmets must be in good working condition and must fit properly according to safety standards. Black helmets are not required but strongly encouraged to maintain a consistent and professional appearance. Full face protection, either a cage or shield, is mandatory for all age groups as governed by the league or governing body rules. No additional logos, advertisements, or unauthorized stickers may be affixed to helmets. Only GCMHA decals may be applied and must follow the organization’s decal placement guidelines. Team managers are responsible for ensuring that all helmet decals are applied properly and consistently to each helmet on the team.
7. Team Equipment: Puck Bags, Cones, Flags, and Goalie Gear
Teams will be assigned game jerseys, one puck bag containing 40 pucks and, by request only 10 cones as well as any required goalie equipment (including a stick) stored in a designated goalie equipment bag. Teams will also be assigned a dressing room flag for use during the season displaying the teams name and sponsor. All equipment is the responsibility of the team throughout the season and must be returned at the same time as the jerseys. The organization will not accept partial returns. Any missing items—including pucks, cones, flags, goalie gear, or the puck bag itself—may be deducted from applicable deposits.
Goalie gear must be maintained throughout the season and returned in the same condition it was issued, accounting for reasonable wear and tear. The bag, stick, and all protective items must be clean and undamaged upon return. Equipment return dates will be communicated via email near the end of the season. Teams unable to meet these return dates must contact the Equipment Manager to make alternative arrangements.
8. Sponsorship Obligations
Each team has been sponsored by a local or regional business. That business is to be displayed and advertised as the primary sponsor of each individual team. Fundraising can occur the same as usual for teams but it is to be noted on any print materials/social media the name or logo of the primary team sponsor along with any supplementary team sponsors. Supplementary team sponsors may not appear on any team game uniforms such as helmets, pants and jerseys. Team practice uniforms can be altered/logoed to individual team preferences and DO NOT have to include the primary team sponsor.
9. Policy Violations
Failure to follow any part of this policy may result in the loss of individual or team deposits, fines to cover the cost of missing or damaged equipment, and/or suspension of gear privileges for future seasons.
